Farmers protest illegal mining

The protesters took out a rally from the tourists bungalow to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on the outskirts of the city and staged a protest in front of  the DC office. They also demanded the removal of ministers Janardhan Reddy, Karunakar Reddy and Sriramulu from the Cabinet alleging that they were involved in illegal mining.

“The assets of the brothers should be confiscated and they should be arrested,” protesters said.

The protesters urged the government to make the Lokayukta report on illegal mining public and also demanded the government to grant more powers to the agency.

Other demands

The farmers demanded the government to follow the example of Kerala, Orissa and Uttranchal and completely ban the sale of BT brinjal and cotton varieties.Protesting against irregular power supply, the protesters demanded for regular power supply in rural areas, as in urban areas.

They also demanded the waiver of farmers’ debts and compensation for farmers affected by floods. District level office-bearers of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene participated in the protest.
