The cool way of recycling

Last Updated 18 August 2014, 12:49 IST

As Bangalore grapples with the growing garbage management problems and the streets pile up with rotting waste, environment-conscious citizens try to find an alternative for this surge.

‘The Green Bazaar’ is in its seventh addition of eco-friendly bazaars. This time the theme is ‘Let’s Recycle’.  The bazaar showcases the ‘cool’ side of recycling and promotes a culture of conscious consumption.

It promises to be the City’s biggest recycling festival with junk art installation, composting workshops, demos on how to reuse everything from leftover food to old canvas shoes, upcycled product stalls and activities for children and adults.

It will feature the best of sustainable goodies, from gluten-free desserts to farm fresh organic produce, rainwater filtering equipment and handmade clay dolls to quirky junk jewellery. Some of the stalls are ‘Tantraa Bakes’, ‘Indophile’, ‘Healthy Buddha’, ‘Common Oxen’, ‘Organique’, ‘Cellulose Jewellery’, ‘Daily Dump’, ‘Living Art’, ‘Upasana from Auroville’ and more. Throughout the day, there will be activities for adults and children. Custom-painted canvas and old CDs, storytelling under a tree,  paper quilling and photo walks.

There will be some games too like aadu huli atta, pallanguzhi and more. Bangalore earth-friendly band, Thalavattam will also be seen performing using found-objects and scrap material. The bazaar will take place at Teri Lawns in Domlur on August 24 between 8 am and 7 pm.
