JOIN US In an endeavour to keep up with rising demand for innovative ideas, Nokia’s research and development segment Nokia Networks is looking to strengthen its manpower by 1,000-1,500 people in the next one-and-a-half years of which 500 people will join the company by the year-end.
The R&D centre, formerly known as Nokia Siemens Networks, has a total strength of 3,000 employees and looks to take this number to 3,500 by the year-end.The company will also supplement its recruitment efforts by tapping potential talent from various universities around the city, officials said.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Head of Technology Centre, Bangalore and Hyderabad, Nokia Networks, Soumitra Sana said, “In the field of research and development, a lot of investment is required in manpower to ensure a stronger base.
India is the largest resource base for us and we feel that encouraging fresh graduates from universities would supplement our workforce with fresh ideas; and, we try to provide a platform for these ideas to flourish.”
On patents, Sana said, “Nokia Networks as a whole secures 125-130 patent disclosures a year, of which 15-25 patents are filed.”
The company is in the process of pushing up its patent numbers in coming quarters. On attrition rate in the Indian operations, Sana said the company has stabilised the rate at roughly 7 per cent.
Nokia Networks focusses on development of radio access networks like 2G, 3G and even 4G and hopes to develop further innovations in emerging areas like Big Data and Small Cells. These are currently in the initial stages of testing, Sana said.
