A man has been arrested from Haryana’s Faridabad district for sending three sexually explicit videos through WhatsApp to Delhi Police’s vigilance branch helpline, police said on Thursday.

The helpline number – 9910641064 – was launched on August 6 to report cases of corruption by police officers and for prompt assistance on video and audio recordings sent through Whatsapp.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi, a case was registered over the incident with Barakhambha Road police station after a complaint was received on Tuesday.

The video was received by the staff of vigilance branch on Tuesday. As per the protocol, an officer downloaded the video to prepare a report, but was shocked to find it to be a pornographic clip. “The sender was requested not to send such videos, but he again sent two more pornographic clips,” Tyagi said.

The matter was then reported to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance Branch) Sindhu Pillai, who ordered the staff to inform local police. As the vigilance branch’s office is in Barakhambha Road, a case was registered with the police station.

Local police then tracked the number and nabbed Chandan Singh from his house at New Industrial Township in Faridabad on Wednesday.

Chandan works with a mall in Faridabad. During interrogation, he owned up to sending the pornographic clips to the vigilance branch helpline.

“The mobile phone from which the videos were sent has also been recovered from Chandan’s possession,” Tyagi added.
