DH, PV present Rs 2.03 crore of readers’ donation to CM
On behalf of the readers of Deccan Herald and Prajavani, Joint Managing Director of The Printers (Mysore) Private Limited and Editor of Deccan Herald K N Tilak Kumar on Tuesday handed over to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa a demand draft for Rs 2.03 crore towards flood relief and rehabilitation efforts in northern Karnataka.
The entire amount had accrued in the Deccan Herald-Prajavani Karnataka Flood
Relief Fund since its launch in the first week of September.
Deccan Herald and Prajavani take this opportunity to thank the readers who came forward in their thousands with generous contributions to the Fund in response to a public appeal to extend help to the needy who suffered untold miseries in the wake of the unprecedented flood in the beginning of the September.
The amount handed over to the Chief Minister through the demand draft has gone to the "Chief Minister's Calamity Relief Fund" and thus each of our readers who made the contribution is eligible for 100 per cent exemption under Sec 80(G) of the Income Tax Act.
Accepting the demand draft in his Vidhana Soudha chamber, the Chief Minister profusely thanked the readers of Deccan Herald and Prajavani. He said the government had already started work on constructing houses for those who lost their homes in the worst flood in decades. He also thanked the two dailies for the timely initiative to mobilise funds for the flood victims.
