Much as the industry may roil over remakes, they seem to be surefire ticket to striking success at box office.

The latest being Power***, a xerox of 2011 Mahesh Babu-starrer Telugu film Dookudu. Faithful to the original, director K Madesh packs it with all ingredients to whip up a heady outing at theatres.

Giving full play, Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, in keeping with his movie moniker, packs a powerful punch as one-man encounter specialist IPS officer Bharat Kumar. Fast on draw, he is fire and brimstone, taking on Naik and his goons, who rule the roost of Mumbai and Bangalore underworld from Spain.

So, from Barcelona to Maximum City to namma Bengaluru, our Power Star goes about shooting bullets, screaming police, sending shivers down the spine of detractors, who sought to murder his do-gooder and idealistic politician father Krishnaprasad.

When not fighting foes, he is busy romancing his boss Chandru’s daughter Prashanti, who, instead of giving vision to her papa’s dreams of becoming IPS officer, is into fashion designing, without his knowledge.

Spiced with rancid comic interludes, the film is Puneeth’s show all the way, who lives up to his billing. Trisha Krishnan adds glamour, while Spain’s scenic spots provide a picturesque canvas for song and dance interludes.

Thaman’s score adds to high-decibel drama. It’s best discerning keep away, while Puneeth’s fans make merry.
