U Mumba, Panthers enter final

Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba scored contrasting wins to enter the final of the Star Sports Pro Kabaddi League at the NSCI Stadium here on Friday.

With one match in hand, U Mumba were the second among the semifinalists while the Bulls were the last to qualify. However, their order of qualification did not matter as the second semifinal of the night seemed a lot more even, with both teams fighting hard for their spot in the final before Mumbai prevailed 27-23.

U Mumba led through most of the game with the Bulls attaining a lead for a very few minutes in the first half of the game and losing it again when Bengaluru skipper was sent packing by all-rounder Rishank Devadiga. The ouster, which was a much needed break-through for the Mumbai team, was followed up with Rajesh Mondal's exit and two points as Rishank escaped Bengaluru's four-man defence.

Panthers through

Riding on some telling raids and sound defending which nullified whatever their rivals could throw, the Panthers thumped Pirates 38-18.

The entire Pirates line-up was packed off twice for two ‘lonas’ by the Panthers, who caught up at 5-all after ten minutes and then surged to a 20-5 lead before the Patna team secured another point.

At half time, the Panthers led 20-7.

Pirates played their Pakistan recruit Waseem Sajjad and Turkmenistan’s Dovlev Bashikov in the second half, but could not reverse the losing trait. They were all out four more times in the second half.

For the winners, Jasvir top scored eight points.
