BJP censures Omar over Pak dialogue remarks

Last Updated 01 September 2014, 19:56 IST

A day after Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attacked the Narendra Modi government for suspending talks with Pakistan, the BJP on Monday hit back, saying that he was playing to the galleries ahead of the Assembly elections.

“Omar knows his report card on the performance front is zero. He is indulging in rhetoric to gain sympathy,” BJP’s Kashmir spokesman Khalid Jehangir said in a statement.
He advised the chief minister to focus on local issues rather than “poking his nose” in the country’s foreign policy.

“Omar is raising non-issues to divert the attention of people from his dismal performance as the chief minister,” Jehangir alleged.

The spokesman also claimed Omar was trying to appease separatists ahead of polls to get political mileage.
