Four days after the CBI charge sheet against it, Malaysian company Maxis Communication on Tuesday rejected allegations of any wrongdoing in the acquisition of Chennai-based Aircel.

In a five-page statement, Maxis said it cooperated with the CBI’s investigation over the past three years during which it had “voluntarily submitted documents relating to the investment and had its director and executives assist the agency with its investigations”.

In a statement, Maxis, which has 74 per cent stake in Aircel, said it will “vigorously pursue all legal remedies available in order to clear itself and (Augustus Ralph) Marshall (who headed Maxis’ UK-based subsidiary Astro All Asia Network) given the apparent lack of regard to overwhelming contradictory evidence”. It also said it will be seeking international investment treaty protections.

The CBI had filed charge sheet in a Delhi court on August 29 against former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanidhi, Maxis promoter T Ananda Krishnan and Marshall besides Sun Direct TV Pvt Limited, Astro All Asia Network Ltd, Maxis Communications and South Asia Entertainment, Mauritius.

Former Telecom secretary J S Sharma, who died during investigations, was also named in the chargesheet but in a column of the accused against whom trial could not proceed.
