Last Updated 02 September 2014, 19:52 IST

Rain and “Lightning Bolt” combined to strike Bangalore in a beautiful fashion, turning a routine Tuesday into an electric evening that would be etched in the memories of everyone who turned  up at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

With the buzz building over sprint king Usain Bolt’s visit to the Garden City and a cricket match against World Cup winner, the flamboyant Yuvraj Singh, a good number of fans flocked to the stadium.

They left with great joy in their hearts, having not only got a glimpse of the superstar athlete but also witnessing his typically funny gestures, his rarely seen cricketing talent and, of course, the epic pose—an archer holding an imaginary bow and arrow.

“I thank Bolt for choosing to come to India and choosing Bangalore as a destination,” said a delighted Yuvraj. “Everyone knows how big a superstar Usain is, and I was really looking forward to meeting him. He’s great fun and we had a gala time. I’m sure everyone here loved every moment of it.

“It’s amazing to be in India,” gushed Bolt, showing no signs of fatigue despite arriving here in the early hours of ,Tuesday but totally geared up to cast his magic on another City. “I can’t wait to beat you, Yuvi!”

Having waited with bated breath to see the fastest man on the planet, the fans were not left chewing their nails in anticipation, as the towering Jamaican arrived at the stadium well on time. After running and posing with children chosen after a nationwide talent hunt—Puma School Of Speed—the six-time Olympic champion then swung into cricketing mood.

After warming up with a bowl-out contest and swinging tennis balls into the stands, he seemed ready to showcase his real cricketing skills when the rain god chose to pay a visit to the special occasion.

With the downpour not relenting, there was an feeling that the Bolt vs Yuvi match might not take place. But the fears were allayed after rain chose to return the spotlight to “Lightning Bolt”, and the maverick didn’t disappoint.

Taking the ball first, Bolt worked up a decent pace for a person who hasn’t played cricket for two years. He rolled his arm for two overs as his side restricted Yuvraj’s team to 58 off four overs.

Bolt then returned to steal the show with the bat too, drawing plenty of applause. Opening with his friend Nugent Walker Junior, Bolt whacked some fine sixes—a few off Yuvraj too—showing no rust whatsoever.

A winner always, Bolt was then involved in a tense finish as he carried his side to victory, slamming a last-ball six.

Bolt then hit the track to climax a memorable evening. He let Yuvraj win the race, but there was no doubt who the real winner was. No prizes for guessing!
