Stressing on the importance of nature

Last Updated 08 September 2014, 14:08 IST

Fullinfaws College recently inaugurated its Science and Eco Club. The objectives of the Science Club are to popularise science through entertainment and make the common man and society aware of the advantages and benefits of science, its inventions and discoveries and lives of the great scientists. The Eco Club distributed medicinal saplings and trees to teachers of various departments.

These were later planted in the campus along with their botanical names, cures and remedies. Also the students were told to maintain a clean and green environment in and around the college. Water harvesting and waste management projects are being planned and will be executed shortly too.

The Eco Club had also organised an excursion, taking the students of the college to the department of horticulture the following day, with a view to recognise the various medicinal plants and also spread the value of medicinal plants and their cure.

The theme of the Chemistry Club at the inauguration was ‘feel the mystery of chemistry’. Nandakumar, the guiding force and director of the club who is also the head of department of chemistry and dean of science, highlighted the importance of science in everyday life in the 21st century through numerous experiments that he and his team had designed.

These experiments were skillfully performed by the  students of these two clubs — the Science Club and Eco Club.  The students of science performed experiments in chemistry which not only gave a hint to the audience about the wonders of chemistry but also conveyed a serious message of great importance on social issues including the evils of drinking, smoking and pollution.

Navneet Gabriel Fullinfaw, vice-chairman, was astonished how the team had related experiments in science to issues such as corruption and dishonesty and how honesty was a solution to both.

Arati Sanjay, head of department of business studies and dean of commerce, said that she was pleasantly surprised to see the science show combining chemical
experiments with values that relate to the current days’  scenario besides being entertaining.
