Bagalkot bundh continues
Bagalkot bundh called by pro-Hindu organisations continued on Wednesday. The town observed the bundh on Tuesday too demanding the arrest of miscreants who threw stones on temples and desecrated statue on Monday night.
However, on Wednesday, barring a few incidents of stone throwing and a mild lathicharge resorted to by the police to disburse a group that had gathered at a market area, no untoward incidents were reported.
Leader of pro-Hindu organisations Ashok Muttinamutt, Srirama Sena’s Basavaraj Siddlingappanavar and Sangh Parivar’s Nagaraj Hadli were arrested at Vallabhai Circle, as they objected to police announcement asking everybody to resume their business. Many members of the City Municipal Council, including CMC Vice-President Jayant Kurandawad were detained by the police, as they staged a protest at Basaveshwar Circle, violating the prohibitory order.
Schools and colleges in the town remained closed. Though buses and autos plied as usual, roads wore a deserted look.
