With the Centre declaring Jammu & Kashmir floods a national disaster, the governments of Tamil Nadu and Odisha on Tuesday announced compensations for the flood ravaged state, where rescue and relief operations are being carried out in full swing.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, while offering Rs 5 crore from the chief minister’s public relief fund, said the money would be a token of support and solidarity of her state as Jammu and Kashmir struggles to grapple with the “unprecedented floods and landslides”.

On Tuesday, Odisha also announced Rs 5 crore contributions to J&K, while also keeping a team of ODRAF(Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force) in readiness for deployment in the flood hit areas of the northern state.

“ The government of Odisha has extended an assistance of Rupees five crore from the chief minister’s relief fund for relief and restoration works in the flood hit areas of Jammu & Kashmir,” a statement from chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s office said.
