Mayor N Shanthakumari and her deputy Ranganna on Tuesday took a tour of the Bangalore South Assembly constituency to learn first hand issues faced by the residents in the area.

From water crisis to bad roads, citizens poured their woes before them.

The mayor also visited the garbage segregation unit near Uttarahalli Lake. People sought a permanent solution to their problems, which the two promised they would look into. However, the residents were not convinced.

Ramanna, a resident of Yadalam Nagar, said his family had not taken bath for the last two days due to water shortage and were forced to go to fields for defecation to save water consumption.

Shanthakumari said given that the region came under the newly added 110 villages to the BBMP, it would at least take a year to bring Cauvery water to the area.

She also visited areas around Konanakunte Ward. She directed Chief Engineer Somashekhar and Superintending Engineer K T Nagaraj of BBMP Major Roads Division to prepare an action plan and start working, bringing the roads into shipshape condition.

Meanwhile, the mayor made a surprise inspection of the Palike’s revenue offices located at Vasanthnagar, Kadugondanahalli, Pulakeshinagar and Shivajinagar where she checked the attendance registers.

On finding that 80 per cent of officers were absent from their seats, she said notices would be sent to those absent seeking reasons for the same.

She chided northeast subdivision revenue officers and engineers for failing to keep their premises clean. Shanthakumari assured the residents that she would inform Commissioner M Lakshminarayana about the issue.
