Minus its vindictive violence, Mahesh Babhu’s Paramashiva is a winsome winner. Despite the vacuous verbal and physical battle, it weaves a wholesome tear-jerking family melodrama.

That Erode Sundar’s moth-eaten maudlin tale is a throwback to nearly 50 years of yore, should in now way deter enjoying its treacly tinged soulful saga.

In Paramashiva, three blood brothers are so fond of their sister they will not even allow a pin hurt her. They will not disobey her commands. Her opinion being the last word. Likewise, the younger brothers will gulp poison without question if only to prove they will not disobey their elder even if it means giving up their life. His word is their honour.

Such then is nice, large-hearted family Paramashiva presents before audiences that it bring shappy memories of bygone days when honour and prestige was prime and family head the fount of all under him.

How this family suffers pains and pangs of separation, slight and slur, misgivings and maligning, are tested to their tethers, when an offended demonic Jalakere Jamindar, seeks vengeance through his son who weds their sister, forms the focus of Paramashiva.

Suffice to say, our Crazy Star is the pivot around which Paramashiva revolves and he delivers with aplomb. The rest too put up a decent show, squeezing every tear out of one’s eyes.

Yes, Paramashiva, despite its motheaten plot, makes for din-free time at theatres. If only Arjun Janya had complemented with a more pleasing score.

Still, this is a one family outing, old-timers can safely check in and come home purged of all misgivings about a well-knit happy family. Enjoy!
