A toddler drowned after accidentally falling into a sump on the premises of Lalbagh Botanical Gardens on Sunday afternoon.

The police said that two-year-old Prajwal was the son of Ramesh and Sumithra, natives of Marenahalli in Raichur district, who worked as gardeners in Lalbagh. The  couple had come down to the City around 10 months ago and were living in a makeshift tent near the Horticulture Training Centre on the Lalbagh premises.

According to the police, the parents were inside the tent while Prajwal was playing in front of the tent. He must have accidentally fallen  into the sump, the police added.

When they could not find their son, the parents started looking for him and found him dead in the sump. They called the police, who shifted the body to a hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered at the Siddapura police station and investigation is on.
