The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which probed the alleged role of senior police officers in the Rs 2.26-crore robbery that took place on a Kerala-bound bus near Mysuru in January 2014, has submitted its report to the Director General and Inspector General of Police Om Prakash.

The CID’s report is of significance as it had probed whether the then Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) Dr K Ramachandra Rao and other senior police officials had played a role in the heist.

A needle of suspicion was pointed towards Dr Rao, a IPS officer of 1993 batch, following the arrest of his gunman Prakash by a CID team in March 2014 and, a confession made by him before the investigation officers.

Certain lapses

While it is said that the CID has found certain lapses on part of Dr Rao, the DG and IGP said that he was yet to go through the report. “I have received the report and I am yet go through it,” Om Prakash told Deccan Herald on Sunday. The Criminal Investigation Department, according to sources, submitted the report to Om Prakash on Friday.

On January 4, 2014, a police team led by Mysuru (South) sub-inspector Jagadish had reportedly seized Rs 20 lakh from a Calicut-bound private bus near Yelawal on outskirts of Mysuru.

Curious twist

The case took a curious twist on March 8, 2014, when a gold merchant lodged a complaint with the then Mysuru Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare that the exact amount being transported in the bus was Rs 2.27 crore and the money belonged to five different parties.
Acting on the complaint, an FIR was filed against Jagadish and five other police personnel.

Initially, Khare was investigating the case which was later handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department as the involvement of senior police officers was suspected.
