Action taken report sought

The High Court division bench, comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri, on Monday asked the BBMP to file an action taken report on the directions of the court to remove encroachments from footpaths.

The court was hearing a PIL petition by Jennifer Pinto and Priya Rao, seeking directions to the authorities to clear footpaths. Ajesh Kumar, the counsel for the petitioner, submitted that though the BBMP was implementing the court order, eviction of hawkers was illegal as the procedure adopted by the authority to do so was against the guidelines of the apex court.

Shifting of court sought

All four accused in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha have moved an application seeking to shift the court to Central Prisons premises at Parappana Agrahara from the City Civil Court complex, citing security reasons.

This comes in the wake of the special CBI court reserving its orders against Jayalalitha in the case. The accused have stated that they have threat to their life from the extremist group Liberation Tiger of Tamil Eelam and others. Since they have to appear before the court on the day when the orders will be pronounced, the same should be done in the central prisons, they said. The court will be pronouncing its orders on September 20. The matter will be heard by the special court on Tuesday.
