Last Updated 18 September 2014, 19:12 IST

A 42-year-old home maker is battling for life while four members of her family suffered minor injuries after the LPG cylinder at their home in Gopalapura on Magadi Road exploded on Thursday.

Police said that Narasimha, 46, his wife Umadevi, their children Venkatesh, 18, Hemavathi, 16, and Bhaskar, 13, were injured in the explosion. Umadevi suffered 50 per cent burns and is being treated at the Victoria Hospital. Other members of the family were discharged from the hospital after being given first aid as they had suffered minor injuries.

Before going to bed last night, the family did not turn off the cylinder properly, causing it to leak. Umadevi woke up at 6 am on Thursday to make coffee. Just as she lit the gas stove, the cylinder exploded and the entire house was engulfed in flames. Hearing the family’s screams, neighbours rushed to their rescue and took them to the Victoria Hospital.

They also called the police and the fire brigade who rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
