Fake Facebook friend rapes woman

Last Updated 30 September 2014, 19:17 IST

A woman has alleged that she was raped after being befriended through a fake Facebook user last year. After a two-month probe, police have arrested a 48-year-old man who is married and has two children.

Surender Chauhan, a resident of Ghaziabad, was arrested on a probe taken up after the woman approached Hauz Khas police station in July.

She told police that she had received a friend request from a man named Vishal Rajput in February 2013.

She accepted the friend request after which they started chatting on Facebook and later, started talking over phone. On Vishal’s advice, the woman even deleted her Facebook account and used to talk only over phone.

“The woman later started loving Vishal and they kept talking over phone for almost 10 months,” said Prem Nath, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi). At the insistence of the woman, Vishal agreed to meet her in December 2013 and called her to south-east Delhi’s Nehru Place.

When she was on way to Nehru Place, she received a message from Vishal that he was stuck somewhere and would not be able to reach Nehru Place.

But he asked her to go to Nehru Place to meet his brother Vansh to discuss certain things about their marriage.

Met his ‘brother’

The woman met Vansh who told her that there were certain problems on the issue of their marriage.

He told her that he will speak to his guru. The woman even agreed to go to Haridwar with Vansh to meet the guru to resolve the problems.

In January, Vansh took her to Haridwar.

“On reaching there, Vansh himself put ‘sindoor’ in her ‘maang’ and said now they are husband and wife. When she objected to this, Vansh told her that it was the solution that has been suggested by their guru,” Nath added.

She had to be Vansh’s wife for six months if she had to marry Vishal.

However, she had not met Vishal till then.

When she said she wanted to talk to Vishal about this, Vansh told her that Vishal had gone abroad and he had already taken his consent.

“It is alleged that Vansh sexually exploited the woman on three occasions. After a considerable time, she insisted that she wanted to meet Vishal. Vansh, however, kept on making excuses and finally stated that Vishal had settled abroad and will not come back,” a police officer said.

The woman then realised that she has been cheated.

She told Vansh that she will file a police complaint. Vansh then threatened her and sent obscene photographs to her family members.

A probe found that Vishal and Vansh were bogus names.

Surender was arrested on the basis of technical surveillance.
