Six held: ` 18.45 lakh worth valuables recovered

Stern action against individuals involved in sand mining

 Police have been successful in busting 21 cases of robbery and theft that were reported from Hassan city and Arsikere taluk.

Superintendent of Police Ravi D Channanavar said six accused have been arrested and have recovered gold and silver valuables worth Rs 18.5 lakh.

Addressing a press meet in Hassan on Wednesday, he said the accused Murugesh, Manja, Satish, Manjunath, his wife Veena, and Nanjunda have been arrested and handed over to judicial custody. Two cases of house burglary, and an attention diversion case and robbery cases, have been cracked. 

Around 370 gm gold and 500 gm silver worth Rs 11 lakh has been seized, he said.Apart from this, Rs 7.50 lakh worth gold ornaments weighing 270 gm and one kg silver has been recovered, and several theft cases reported from Arsikere and other taluks have been solved, he said.

Sand mining He also warned of stern action against those involved in illegal sand mining in Sakleshpur, Alur regions of the district. He alleged that public and some police officials too were hand in glove with the sand mafia, and warned of disciplinary action against the erring cops.

Steps would be taken to instal CCTV cameras at the sand mining spots after holding discussions with the deputy commissioner, he added.
