Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday described her long political career as a “river of fire.”
Jayalalitha, also All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo, said she was not worried about encountering challenges during her journey in public life .
“My public life is similar to swimming in a river of fire. I have encountered several hurdles in my political life and I am not worried about any disputes in this path,” she said in a statement here after her release from a Bangalore jail in a disproportionate assets case.
Assuring her party cadres that she will emerge out of the present dispute, Jayalalitha said: “I have faced similar situation in the past and successfully came out of then. With your (cadres) beloved support, I will come out of the present situation also.”
Stating that her political mentor and party founder M G Ramachandran told her that she has to sacrifice a lot to take the party to greater heights, Jayalalitha said her motive is to work for the AIADMK and the people of Tamil Nadu.
“The almighty has given me enough strength to take all situations in the right stride and, therefore, I will continue to work for the welfare of the people here,” she said.
The AIADMK chief also appealed to her party functionaries not to indulge in violent acts and attempt suicide for her sake. A total of 193 people had died due to her “current position.”
Jayalalitha has expressed condolence to the families of these victims and announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh each and Rs 50,000 each for three partymen who were fighting for their lives in various hospitals.
Jayalalitha also expressed her gratitude to those who prayed for her acquittal.
