Deepawali arrived early for the employees of Hari Krishna Exports Private Limited, a diamond exports company in Surat, when its owner Savjibhai Dholakia announced a bonus of around Rs 4 lakh each to buy a flat, car or jewellery.

The employees can choose a gift of their choice depending on their need and requirement.

“I decided to share a part of the profit with my employees as they have been loyal to the company and it was because of their hard work that the company has been able to achieve its target,” Dholakia told Deccan Herald.

He said that the employees deserved a reward and he had already set aside an amount. Dholakia decided to distribute an equal amount among the employees after they had met the given target.

“Instead of giving them a reward in cash, I decided to give them an option. I asked the employees to choose a gift of their choice, either a flat, a car or jewelery,” said Dholakia.

He said that 200 employees decided to go for a flat and as many as 490 employees decided to opt for a car. Dholakia said that 500 of them opted for jewellery.

This is not the first time Dholakia has gifted his employees so lavishly. In 2012, he gave cars to three of his employees.

One of the employees, Gaurav Duggal, who has received jewellery, was quoted by agencies as saying: “My experience with the company has been indescribable. The jewellery which they have given me is not only priceless, it shows the sentiment that the company has towards me and other employees.”

Surat which is a hub for the diamond industry has at least 4,00,000 people who are engaged in cutting and polishing diamonds in more than 2,500 factories in the city.
