Man kills relative over rivalry

Raghuram, 35, a resident of Manjunath Nagar, was allegedly murder by his relative Mallesh, over an old rivalry in Channamanakere Achchukattu Police Station limits on Sunday night.

Mallesh, who was  arrested, and deceased Raghuram were both autorickshaw drivers, police said. Family elders finalised a wedding alliance for Mallesh with Raghuram’s sister Latha Bai. Months later, Raghuram urged his family members to cancel the alliance due to Mallesh’s habits, police said. By then, Mallesh and Latha Bai were in love. They eloped to Tamil Nadu, got married there and returned to City. They started living separately in the same locality.

A few elders intervened and ensured a comprise formula between the two families. Members of  both family started visiting each other's houses, police added.
Raghuram, however, nursed a grievance against Mallesh believing he had tarnished the reputation of both families and this led to regular fights between the two. Following on such row recently in Chikkballapur, Raghuram thrashed a few members of Mallesh’s family.

Mallesh and Raghuram, after a visit to a local bar on Sunday, nearing Vidyapeetha Circle, picked a fight again, and in the melee, Mallesh attacked Raghuram with a hallow brick. Raghuram, who collapsed bleeding profusely, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died later, police said.

Being alerted, the police arrested Mallesh in connection with the murder.


Man run over by train

A 49-year-old man was killed when he tried to board a moving train but lost balance and came under its wheels at the City railway station on Sunday night.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Syed, a native of Andhra Pradesh, based on the medical reports he was carrying, the police said.

According to police, the accident took place at 10.20 pm at platform number one, while attempting to catch Chennai Mail.

He was suffering from renal failure and was on dialysis, the police said. The body was moved to Victoria Hospital, added the police.
