The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) members led by president S Sampathraman on Friday called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and appraised him on the interest shown by overseas investors and lauded the new industrial policy.

FKCCI recently sent delegations to China, Japan, Israel and Canada. “We apprised the chief minister on the positive feedback received after the visit of business delegations to these countries. Respective governments,  with solid participation of big and medium industries, promised investments in the state,” he said.

Sampathraman pointed out the fact that the state government should take necessary steps to give adequate infrastructure facilities to these prospective investors.

“When we requested the CM to lead a delegation to South Korea, he requested FKCCI to take the initiative for the state government. We are thankful to the chief minister for his visionary steps to industrialise the state,” he said.

The FKCCI delegation also congratulated the Siddaramaiah-led government for bringing out the Karnataka Industrial Policy 2014-2019. “We congratulated the state government for the incentives and concessions for large, mega, ultra mega and super mega projects as well as for the special package for MSMEs,” he said.

Besides reservation of 358 items for MSMEs, forming 100 industry clusters, 15 per cent price preference and  self-certification in respect of labour laws, government initiatives like timebound approvals and sanctions and the forthcoming export promotion strategy as part of the industrial policy 2014-19 will help in promoting industries in Karnataka, the chamber said. The FKCCI delegation also suggested a few corrections in the Industrial Policy so that more investments can be attracted to the state.

“We brought the attention of CM to the issue of exorbitant land price prevailing in the state. The FKCCI also wants some changes in the 99-year lease agreement on land also,” he said. The chief minister promised the delegation a solution on these fronts.

GIM initiative

Besides participation of overseas countries and their business conglomerates, the FKCCI apprised the CM on participation of NRKs and NRIs in Global Investors Meet (GIM).

“We want the GIM to be an initiative for inclusive growth of the state. The chief minister has also consented to conducting an Investors Meet at Chamarajanagar and Raichur within a month with FKCCI as facilitator,”he said. The government also plans to organise two more these investors meet in other district headquarters.
