Rain plays spoilsport on day one

 Rain caused havoc on the opening day of the Vijay Merchant Trophy under-16 tournament as only 64 overs of play was possible between two matches here on Saturday while the third one in Mandya was a complete washout.

At the SNW Ground here, Hyderabad managed to put themselves in a comfortable position against Karnataka after electing to bat first. 

Contrasting knocks

The visiting side finished the day at 103 for one with MSR Charan (43) and Mohul Bhowmick (38) producing contarasting knocks.

The play never resumed after it was first interrupted at 1.10 pm before it was called off at 3.45 pm

At the Jayachamarajendra College ground, Andhra reduced Kerala to 53 for three in the 19 overs possible on the day after opting to bowl first. The rain stopped play at 11.02 am and was called off at 1.00 pm.

The first day’s play between Tamil Nadu and Goa in Mandya was called off without a ball being bowled. 

Brief scores (At Mysore): Hyderabad: 103/1 in 45 overs (MSR Charan 43 n.o., Mohul Bhowmick 38 n.o.) vs Karnataka. 

Kerala: 53/3 in 19 overs (Shaik Md Rafi 2-13).
