Volvo unveils new range of trucks

Increasing the competition in the heavy duty trucks market, Volvo Trucks on Monday announced the launch of three new range of trucks in India, including the flagship Volvo FH which was voted 'International Truck of the Year 2014' in Europe.

The newly unveiled Volvo rage FH, FM and FMX are the most technologically advanced in India, with high productivity, fuel efficiency, safety and maximising uptime, states the company officials. Talking to reporters, Volvo India Pvt Ltd Senior Vice-President Philippe Divry said the heavy duty trucks segment is likely to increase with the positive turnaround in the economy. “We want to stabilise our leadership   position in the premium truck segment,” said Divry.

Besides intelligent I-Shift automated gearbox technology which is optimised for tough and rugged mining operating conditions, the products has additional unique feature of Dynafleet telemetrics system which allows following up on fuel consumption over time.
“Volvo has invested more than $3 billion and 14 million engineering hours in this project. And just to make perfectly sure of the outcome, we have tested the vehicles for 21 million km,” Divry said.

He said the Volvo group has always been extremely confident about the future outlook of India. "We remain confident about the India's growth storey. Now we believe that this is the moment for growth story about to be delivered,” he said.

To a question on size of the premium truck market in India's and Volvo's share in it,  Volvo Trucks Senior Vice-President Sales and Marketing Rama Rao A S said "In a good year we have seen the total industry volume is around 1,500 units. Traditionally, Volvo trucks have been taking about 62 per cent of the market share. This year as of September, we had 68 per cent.”
