Bamboo craft branches out

Forms of Life
Last Updated 28 October 2014, 14:13 IST

Elements’, an exhibition of installations in bamboo by designer Lenin CP, is being held at No 1 Shanthiroad Studio Gallery, Shanthinagar till November 1.

The bamboo craft works of Lenin are explorations on the immense possibilities of forms and shapes that can be created out of bamboo, the ancient reed. While he relishes in utilising the natural forms of bamboo to the maximum to make simple but artistic products, he also shows the penchant for going beyond the natural to create forms of life dear to his mind – the flora and fauna of watery village life in Kerala.

The exhibition displays Lenin’s latest works that focus on three of the five elements of nature — air, water and fire — all forms made by coaxing and cajoling, carving and pleating, the flexibility of bamboo. Among these, you will see pulsating buds; leaves that invoke sun rays; blossoms; myriad forms of fish that traverse the depths of the seas and bring ashore the scents of the deep sea; mollusks; mushrooms etc.

Lenin, self-taught craftsman and designer, had his tryst with bamboo craft started 13 years ago.
