JOIN USKuppanna Park closer to tapping green energy
Works on the installation of an eight KV capacity solar power plant at Kuppanna Park, located near Hardinge Circle in the city is nearing completion.
The project has been taken up on an experimental basis to tap solar energy to address the needs of power supply.
According to the details submitted as part of the scheduled topic during the council meeting of Mysore City Corporation (MCC) on Friday, the works are in its final stage with the technical trial underway.
The works on the setting up of the plant at the park was taken up during February at an estimated cost of Rs 15.20 lakh under Solar City project of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) of the Central government. While MNRE will fund 30 per cent of the total project cost, the beneficiary (MCC) will bear the remaining cost.
The fate of the similar project at Cheluvamba Park, however hangs in balance. Even though the Corporation called for expression of interest (EOI) for the park thrice, there have been no takers, according to the project report.
Earlier when it was decided in January 2013 to take up various plans under Solar City, it was resolved to implement five plans under the same at the estimated cost of Rs 3.42 crore.
They were solar power plant on a pilot basis at the afore mentioned parks in the city, installation of solar power plants on the roof tops of MCC main office (60 KV capacity), main building of Mysore Urban Development Authority (75 KV capacity) and seven zonal office buildings of MCC (45 KV capacity each).
When the matter was brought to the notice of the council, it was informed that out of the total project cost of Rs 99.50 lakh for 60 KV plant and 45 KV plants at zonal offices, MCC will be spending revised amount of Rs 42 lakh and Rs 36.50 lakh. This will be in addition to the MNRE share of Rs 29.85 lakh and Rs 25.65 lakh, respectively.
Street lights
On the annual maintenance of street lights, it was decided to increase the package to 27 against the existing 22 packages, to facilitate the service in 65 wards of the city.
