<p>Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Durga Yadav is reported to have taken his family members with him on a government-sponsored study tour to Brazil.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The State Road Transport Undertakings, which sponsored the week-long tour to study transport systems in Brazil, was surprised that Yadav had taken his son and daughter-in-law with him when he started the tour a few days ago.<br /><br />Authorities said they had asked the state Transport Department to send only three people and had also forwarded their names, but as many as ten people went. <br /><br />The visitors will be going to Sao Paulo and Rio De Janeiro during the trip. All attempts to elicit a response from Yadav’s residence in Azamgarh town proved futile.<br /> <br />The staff, while confirming that the minister had gone abroad, refused to reveal whether his son and daughter-in-law had accompanied him.<br /><br />Earlier this year, too, a delegation of state ministers and legislators had embarked on an 18-day tour of European countries, including the Netherlands, Turkey and Britain, and the government had to cough up a substantial amount. <br /><br />The trip to Europe had drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties and the ruling Samajwadi Party had strongly defended it. <br /><br />The delegates said they had learnt a lot from the tour, and SP leaders had lambasted the media for “hounding” them abroad.</p>
