Country's first wax museum opens up in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 11, 2014, DHNS 0:27 IST
The country’s first wax museum, which has 19 statues of famous personalities on the lines of the world-famous Madame Tussauds, was inaugurated in Kolkata on Monday.

The Mother’s Wax Museum, which was thrown open to the public by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and has statues of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and film star Amitabh Bachchan, has been set up in the satellite township of Rajarhat New Town. The museum features life-like wax figures of icons and celebrities.

Mamata dedicated the museum to the people of the state at the inaugural function of the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival in the presence of Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone and other luminaries. “The Mother’s Wax Museum pays homage to towering talents of the country. It will be a special attraction for both tourists and residents. It will go a long way in developing Rajarhat New Town as a holistic destination for both work and leisure,” said the chief minister. The wax figures have been created by Susanta Ray, a veteran wax sculptor.

The museum occupies the sixth floor of the New Town Financial Hub, opposite the sprawling Eco-Tourism Park.
