JOIN USThe National Go Kart Championship, recently organised by the Indian Society Of New Era Engineers (ISNEE), was a platform for budding engineers to showcase their talents.
The participants were required to design and manufacture a go kart and compete with colleges from across the country under various performance categories.
This year, a go kart developed by team Akhurath of the department of mechanical engineering of the New Horizon College Of Engineering, bagged the second slot competing against 123 teams registered from across the country.
There were 21 members in the team with Rakshath Kulkarni as captain and vice-captain Sai Kirthan.
The team has been working on this project for a while now.
Team Akhurath participated in the pre-final on July 10, 2014 at Acrapolis Technical Campus, Indore, Madhya Pradesh where the CATIA design, business plan, cost report, failure mode effect analysis, design validation plan and the innovation for the go kart were thoroughly assessed.
Of the 123 teams that participated in the pre-final round, only 90 teams qualified for the final round. Team Akhurath qualified for the final round.
The manufacturing of the go kart commenced at the department of mechanical engineering, New Horizon College of Engineering.
The testing was complete in the first week of October and transported to Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu.
The final round was held at the International Race Track between October 17 and 19.
The assessments were impartial and highly competitive.
After a quick inspection by the track officials, the process of checking the disassembly and assembly, brake and acceleration, skid-pad, autocross, endurance and fuel economy was done.
Of the 90 teams that competed in the final round, 84 teams completed the whole event.
Team Akhurath successfully finished at second position among the Karnataka State teams.
