The rise of the Aztec

Geometry might have been a boring subject in school but donning fabrics with geometrical figures has never been this fun. From grids, triangles, concentric circles, linear, bold, black and white strips, Aztec prints are creating waves in the fashion arena.

Aztec prints are all about strong shapes and colours which make it stylish and
fashionable.

Designer Paresh Lamba says the essence of the prints will always remain even though the textiles change. “Aztec prints were always in fashion but now they have come back in a more vibrant and flamboyant way. Aztec prints have evolved over the years and has been influenced by several regions making the print savvy among people.”

Ancient Aztec clothing was worn by the tribes of the Aztec empire in Central Mexico. But today, the prints are picking up pace in the City and many are opting for them. “Aztec prints are as relevant in Bengaluru as they are in Mexico. The modern women and men from Bengaluru are more fashion conscious than before. Fashion in Bengaluru is experimental and is competing on the global stage,” adds Paresh.

These prints combine both ethnic and contemporary looks and one sees more women flaunting them than men. But men needn’t be disappointed says designer Manoviraj Khosla, who is of the opinion that these prints are meant for both men and women.
“It is a common misconception that the prints look good only on women. But these days, even men can carry them off as stylishly as women. The beauty of Aztec prints is that they are adaptable, flexible and have a
universal appeal.”

Manoviraj has style tips for men when it comes to these prints. Team up the prints on plain trousers or wear the Aztec prints as a jacket, he says.
For women, an Aztec-printed dress brings out the feminine side. Teaming an Aztec print top with plain leggings or pant is classy.

Paresh Lamba says that the beauty of Aztec prints is that they can be used during the day and night. His  advice on flaunting Aztec prints to a night club or a Sunday brunch is ideal.

The vibrant, abstract and stylish Aztec prints have donned numerous avatars over the years including accessories, shoes, bags, mobile cases and of course the clothes. Manoviraj adds, “Aztec prints are not only confined to fabric but accessories also. Bags with Aztec prints are so stylish that they make a simple attire look beautiful. The prints have a beautiful quality as they can be moulded into different forms and in different ways which can never go out of fashion.” Even mobile covers with these prints are a rage.
