There is no particular season or attire to carry a smart leather bag. Be it a corporate meeting or a casual party with friends, a good leather bag can turn heads around. But it depends on the kind of bag you are carrying and if suits the occasion.
Today, a variety of designs in leather bags are available in the market. All you need is to dig deep into your pockets for that stylish tote. “Box shaped bags and tribal inspired bags are trending this season.
Our small boxy bag is a perfect carry for this season,” says Dilip Kapur, president, Hidesign. “The compact box shaped bag is trendy, yet carries all your necessary things. Our autumn-winter collection offers tribal inspired wallets and bags,” he says.
While Sahil Malik, managing director Da Milano says, “Camouflage is the certified trend of the season which works perfectly for a formal or a casual occasion. Da Milano has launched its fall winter collection keeping that in mind. From totes to hobos, slings to top handles all are in vogue these days. There is a range of colours, but must-have shades for winter are black, coral, fuchsia, mustard, jade to name a few.”
He mentions about the ‘Monogram Collection’ which has been introduced on the completion of 25 years. “The Canvas Monograms are an ideal pick for winters which come in bright colours in contrast with baby pink, neon orange and many more,” says Malik.
“Fur is always among the winter favourites,” he adds. “Ink spots spread on the fur are something which our designers from Italy have foretasted for the season,” he informed.
Though a variety of leather bags are available in the market, the important thing
is to select a good quality leather bag. “A good leather bag should be vegetable tanned. At Hidesign, we use vegetable-tanned leather made using natural extracts from barks of wattle trees and myrobalam seeds found in our local forests. Vegetable tanning enables the natural oils and extracts to nourish the leather and provides long-lasting strength,” says Kapur.
“Vegetable tanned leathers are environment-friendly and also are great for the skin. Chrome-tanned leathers are coated by heavy finishes – you might as well use a synthetic as far as your skin is concerned and the environment – the chrome-tanned leather
industry is one of the worst polluters,” he adds. However, Malik advises to buy
“full grain leather which is free of scars, fat deposits or blemishes.”
A lot of unisex leather bags are also in vogue these days. “Yes, our laptop bags and travel bags are unisex. From our Icon Collection, Safari is our classic travel bag which can be carried by men as well as women,” says Kapur.
