Proceedings against Kerawalla stayed

Last Updated 23 November 2014, 05:51 IST

The High Court of Karnataka on Friday stayed further proceedings against Rustom Kerawalla, the chairman of Vibgyor High school, till the next date of hearing.

Kerawalla was arrested and later released on bail after a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two staffers in the school.

Kerawalla had approached the court contending that the police had wrongly implicated in the case for “not co-operating” with them in the investigation into the incident.

The counsel for Kerawalla submitted that the latter was in Mumbai and there was no question of him not cooperating with the investigation. He had sought to quash the proceedings.

During the hearing, the court observed that the rape at the school had put the entire country to shame.

Justice A N Venugopala Gowda granted stay on proceedings against Kerawalla.

Notice to govt
The High Court has ordered notice to State government in a petition challenging the order against granting permission to new English-medium schools.

Modern Education Society, Ejipura, had approached the court challenging government order dated November 11, 2014.

It had contended that the government had no right to curtail the right of choosing medium of instruction. Justice A S Bopanna ordered notice and posted the matter to November 25.
