Manmul: `1.5 per litre deduction put on hold

Following the stand off between milk producer societies and the Mandya Milk Union Limited (Manmul), a decision has been taken to temporarily stop deduction of Rs 1.5 per litre for the milk collected from farmers.

Speaking to press persons, here, on Sunday, Manmul president Kadalur Ramakrishna said, the deduction will stop ‘temporarily’ from November 24. From Monday, farmers and societies will be paid Rs 23.5 per litre, he said.

It can be recalled that milk producing societies and farmers were irked by the decision of Manmul and had threatened to stage a protest against the move.

Ramakrishna said, Manmul has to invest Rs 70 crore for the construction of a mega dairy in the district, with the State government expected to provide Rs 40 crore. The remaining Rs 115 crore required for the construction of the dairy will be borrowed from various banks, he said.

Victory for farmers

T Yashwanth, representative of Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha, has welcomed the decision of Manmul and has described it as a victory of the farmers who had protested the decision.
