Govt moots separate body for HBCSs

The State government will form a single authority for house-building cooperative societies (HBCS) in the State and allot them sites through the proposed entity.

“The proposal to form such an authority will be introduced in the next budget. The State government is committed to encourage house-building cooperative societies,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Sunday. He was speaking at the inauguration of golden jubilee hall of Ideal Homes Cooperative Building Society Limited on Mysore Road.

The chief minister said that around 24,000 sites would be allotted through Bangalore Development Authority in the coming days. He said that the government had prepared a comprehensive plan for developing Bengaluru and the City would be rid of garbage problem in six months. Co-operation Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad said that housing societies had till now allotted 2.50 lakh sites while BDA had allotted only 1.25 lakh sites.
