Two members of an infamous gang, wanted for cases of attempt to murder and robbery, have been arrested with illegal firearms, Delhi Police Crime Branch said on Sunday.

Also recovered from one of them was a tennis ball containing 11 surgical blades. Police alleged the tennis ball was meant to be tossed into prison number 8 of Tihar Jail where some associates of the accused are lodged.

“The surgical blades were put inside the tennis ball after cutting it skillfully,” said police. Tihar Jail authorities have been compelled to look at options like installing nets and raising the height of the boundary walls to deal with this menace.

Notorious gang members Ali Mohammad and Vijender alias Kailash are allegedly members of the Roshan Kale gang that is notorious for its involvement in several robbery and dacoity cases.

A native of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Ali is pursuing his BA degree from an open university. Kailash, on the other hand, is a school dropout. Police said in a release that two sophisticated pistols and seven live cartridges have been recovered from them.

The arrested men told police that the recovered arms and ammunitions were procured from Yogesh, an Uttam Nagar-resident wanted in two cases of attempt to murder and rape.

Police said Ali was attracted to the lifestyle of criminals and he loved being in the company of local gangsters. “Ali used to carry a loaded pistol to influence and mentor budding criminals in Uttam Nagar area,” said police.

Along with five other associates, Ali allegedly injured Jeetu Kumar Gangani after attacking him with sharp weapons. The gang is also accused of robbing Israil after stabbing him. Kailash is involved in three other cases, police said.

The arrests came after a police team learnt that the two would be coming near Shish ram Park in Uttam Nagar with illicit arms and ammunitions.

“The team developed the information about the two criminals and accordingly conducted a raid at their hideout in Uttam Nagar. The two were nabbed with two pistols and seven live bullets besides a tennis ball containing surgical blades,” said police.
