RVCE tops list with 43 ranks

Chinnari Sreenidhi of Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, has done his institute proud by bagging 11 gold medals in Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in civil engineering discipline.

R K Pachauri  Briefing media persons on the ninth convocation scheduled on Janaury 7 here on Friday, Vice Chancellor Prof H P Khincha said "Bharath S R of BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, has won six gold medals for having secured highest marks with first rank in electrical and electronics engineering. Shomith BK of Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur, has won six gold medals with first rank in electronics and communication engineering and secured highest marks among the students of the engineering colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)."

RVCE, Bangalore has topped the rank list with 43 followed by MSRIT, Bangalore, (29), SJCE, Mysore, (28), and BMS, Bangalore, (24). In all, 339 ranks were awarded and of them 193 were secured by BE and B Tech students, 10 by B Arch, 21 by MBA, 11 by MCA and 104 by M Tech. A comparative analysis has revealed that girls have outshined boys, Khincha added.

VTU will confer degrees on Bachelor of Engineering-37633 students, Bachelor of Architecture (123), Master of Business Administration (2430), Master of Computer Applications (1801), Master of Technology (1052), Master of Architecture (10).
The University will award PhD to 50 students and Master of Science (Engineering) degrees to seven at the convocation to be held at 'Jnana Sangama'. Governor and the Chancellor of VTU Hans Raj Bhardwaj will preside over the function.


Honorary doctorates will be conferred on former ISRO Chairman G Madhavan Nair and The Energy Resources Institute Director General R K Pachauri. National Council for Science & Technology Communication Network President Prof Yash Pal will deliver the convocation address.
