Last Updated 04 December 2014, 19:32 IST

After the High Court direction to undergo medical examination, Ramachandrapura Mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharathi has written to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seeking a week’s time. CID officials had issued a notice to him, on Wednesday, to appear for medical examination at Victoria Hospital at 8 am on Thursday.

The notice was issued immediately after the High Court dismissed the petition filed by the pontiff challenging the CID’s decision to subject him to medical examination. CID DySP Ashok Kumar along with Victoria Hospital outpost police had spread a security layer outside the Institute of Nephro-Urology on Thursday.

“The notice was served at Girinagar branch at 4.30 pm, on Wednesday, asking the seer to appear for the examination at 8 am next day. We told the officials that seer may not be able to appear immediately since he has to attend certain programme. Besides, we are yet to receive the High Court order copy and hence we sought time. We handed them a request letter seeking time,” branch Secretary Mohan Hegade said.

Sources said CID officials sent one more notice to the Girinagar branch at around 8.45 pm on Wednesday asking the seer to appear for the test without fail. “It has been clarified that time won’t be granted. The doctors at Nephro-Urology were waiting since morning, however, the seer did not turn up. We will not issue another notice, but decide on the next course of action soon,” an official said. The High Court, on Wednesday, dismissed pontiff's petition and held that the decision of investigating officer to conduct a medical test on the seer was justified since certain materials were recovered during the investigation.
