The third season of ‘Alive India in Concert’ was recently held in the City and taking the stage was acclaimed singer Hariharan. Thousands of music-lovers were in for a treat at Phoenix MarketCity as the singer performed some memorable and melodious music.

Hariharan, who is known for his soulful renditions and quirky singing style, enthralled the audience with his performances. Clad in a funky white jacket, the versatile singer titled his set list as ‘Soul of India’ and performed all his signature hits — be it Bollywood blockbusters, his popular numbers as part of the band ‘Colonial Cousins’, melodious ghazals or super hit classical fusion numbers.

Starting with ‘Vakratunda Mahakaya sholka’, he went on to sing some of his best tracks one after the other like ‘Roja Janeman’, ‘Tu Hi Re’, ‘Krishna Nee Begane’, ‘Sa Ni Da Pa Ma Ga’, ‘Kaizala’, ‘Chanda Re’, ‘Baho Ke Darmiya’, ‘Chappa Chappa’ and finally ‘Bharat Humko Jaan’.

He sang not only in Hindi but also Kannada, Tamil, Marathi and English songs. In fact, he even added his inimitable classical nuances to Sanskrit shlokas and presented them in an all new style.

The audience had people of all ages. While the youngsters danced to his tunes, adults sat back and enjoyed the music. Kanika, a professional who attended the concert, said, “Hariharan’s music was just what I needed after a long hard week. Such concerts are always fun as we can catch up with friends over some great music.”

Meena Iyer, a 52-year-old music-lover,  said, “What is unique about Hariharan’s concert is that he brings different variations to a single song. He gives a unique touch to every song he sings. Even if they are his own songs, he adds a lot of variations when he performs live. Watching him was a treat.”
