JOIN USWaste space below flyover turns 'Kasa Market'
Kasa Market, a dry waste collection centre (DWCC) said to be the first-of- its-kind, was inaugurated beneath the Central Silk Board flyover at Madiwala on Saturday.
A joint venture project of BBMP and Nirmal Enviro Solution Private Limited, Kasa Market has been set up at an estimated cost of around Rs 50 lakh.
The DWCC will collect all types of dry waste from residents as well as interested bulk waste producers for a price Sunday onwards.
Madiwala ward corporator Manjunath Reddy said, “The space beneath flyovers usually goes unused and I had discussed with Palike higher officials on starting the DWCC. There is a parking facility also. All types of dry waste such as plastic, canned bottles, cardboards, waste clothes, metal and e-waste will be collected. The sellers can earn for handing over the trash.”
The market will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on all days and 20 to 25 vendors are roped in by Nirmal Enviro Solution Private Limited to help dispose of collected waste.
Vinod Kumar, managing director of the company, said, “We are ready to receive dry waste up to 10 tonnes as of now.
“The capacity will be further increased shortly. Each item will have a prescribed rate. The vendors are experts at recycling and hail from different parts of the country. For instance, tetra packs collected here will be handed over to vendors from Gujarat and e-waste will be sold to vendors from Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.”
Target set
Kumar said they have set a target to collect 50 tonnes of waste per day in the next three months. People from any part of the City can hand over the waste, said BBMP officials. Transport and City Incharge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who inaugurated the Centre, said more DWCCs would be set up under flyovers.
