The Supreme Court on Thursday extended by four months the bail period of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha who was sentenced to four-year jail term in the disproportionate assets case by a Bengaluru court.

Expressing its satisfaction over the efforts made by her and three co-convicts in filing all documents in their pending appeal, a bench presided by Chief Justice H L Dattu granted her the relief. “From the affidavit, it is clear all necessary documents have been filed. Keeping in view of the peculiar facts of the case, we direct the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court to constitute a special bench to hear on day-to-day basis their appeal and dispose of the matter within three months,” the bench said.

Senior advocate K T S Tulsi, appearing for the petitioners, submitted the entire records  in the high court. The court extended the bail granted to Jayalalitha and others on October 17 till April 18.
