Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to a private hospital on Thursday for treatment of a lower respiratory tract ailment.

The 68-year-old Gandhi, who has been campaigning in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand, was taken to the Sir Gangaram Hospital in the capital after she complained of breathing trouble.

Last year, she was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences after she complained of uneasiness in the Lok Sabha which was clearing her pet welfare initiative – the National Food Security Bill.

Gandhi had undergone surgery at a US hospital on August 5, 2011, for an undisclosed ailment. She has been travelling abroad for medical check up at regular intervals.
