Australia have included Queensland batsman Joe Burns in place of injured Mitchell Marsh in their 13-man squad for the Boxing Day Test, beginning in Melbourne from December 26.

Burns, a 25-year-old middle-order bat, comes into the squad on the back of a successful Sheffield Shield season for Queensland for whom he piled up 439 runs at 54.87 this year and 563 runs at 46.91 last year.

Australia coach Darren Lehmann was also confident that David Warner, who was struck on his thumb at the Gabba, will be fit for Boxing Day while he said Marsh's recovery from his hamstring injury remains to be seen.

Ryan Harris too is likely to be ready for the third Test after missing the Brisbane match due to a quadriceps injury. Harris bowled in the nets at the Gabba on Sunday morning and Lehmann said Harris looked alright.

Squad: Steven Smith (capt), David Warner, Chris Rogers, Shane Watson, Shaun Marsh, Joe Burns, Brad Haddin (wk), Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
