Molahalli Shiva Rao's bust unveiled

District-in-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that the number of five to six patta land holders in the village, has now reached thousand and it is glad that all of them are involved in co-operative sector. The sector has a significant contribution towards the building of a healthy society, by empowering people.

He was speaking during the unveiling of the bust of Molahalli Shiva Rao and the sports torunament of Navodaya group members, held to observe the centenary celebrations of Dakshina Kannda district Central Cooperative Bank, in Puttur on Sunday.

MP Nalin Kumar said that co-operative sector, which has spread its network in villages, shares the credit of bringing 100 per cent enrolment of Jan Dhan scheme in the district.

An affidavit has been filed against the ban on areca. The issue has also been discussed with the Prime Minister. Areca growers’ problem will soon be solved in the days to come, he said.

Also, the centre has been requested to make its move on the implementation of Kasturirangan report, after gathering people’s opinion. Minister of State for Commerce and Industries Nirmala Sitharaman has chaired a meeting with rubber board towards the appreciation of falling rates of rubber, he added.

SCDCC Bank Chairman Dr Rajendra Kumar said that the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative unit has stressed upon women empowerment, by giving them equal opportunities in the sector. The sports tournament has been organised for the women who have been striving for cooperative sector from 20 years.

The bust of Molahalli Shiva Rao was unveiled by him on the premise of the Puttur branch of SCDCC Bank.

Aryapu Navodaya group President Meenakshi Gowda lit the sports lamp to inaugurate the sports tournament of Navodaya members.

In connection with the sports tournament of Navodaya group members, a procession was taken out from Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple to Puttur Taluk stadium. Campco President Konkodi Padmanabha, Town Panchayat President Nellikatte Jagadish Shetty, Puttur Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple Management Committee President Nanya Acchyutha Moodethaya and others were present.

The saffron issue

During the function, dignitaries on the stage were felicitated with Belagavi Petas (turban). While delivering his speech, MP Nalin Kumar pointed out that Minister B Ramanath Rai was wearing a saffron coloured turban, reacting to which Rai immediately unmounted the turban.
