Dhoni pooh-poohs the Kohli-Dhawan spat story

MS Dhoni dismissed the alleged dressing-room spat between Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan during the Brisbane Test as a figment of imagination.

It was reported in a section of the Indian media that Kohli picked up an argument with Dhawan, who didn’t go out to bat on the fourth morning of the second Test after copping a blow on his right wrist while batting on a practice pitch.

As a result Kohli, who too was hit on his left forearm, received only five minutes’ notice before he padded up.

The Indian vice-captain lasted just 11 balls. Team Director Ravi Shastri, the report claimed, had to separate the two Delhi players.

"Yeah, actually that was the case," Dhoni joked. "Virat used a knife and he stabbed Shikhar and when he recovered out of that we pushed him out to bat.

"These are all stories. Marvel and Warner brothers should pick them up and make a movie out of it. I don't know where it comes from. If someone from the team has actually told you this, it will be interesting if you give us the name of the individual who said this.

His imagination is really brilliant, and he should be working for Warner Bros or another movie company. He doesn't deserve to be in our dressing room because he has created something that hasn't been there at all. Stuff like that makes good stories for the tabloids, and maybe it helps them sell it. As far as reality is concerned, there is nothing like that," he explained.

On the fourth day at the Gabba that eventually became the final day of the second Test, Dhoni had disclosed that the confusion on whether Dhawan was fit to bat created a bit of ‘unrest’ in the dressing room. The skipper stressed the atmosphere in the change room was ‘fantastic.’

“We have a fantastic dressing room and there have been no issues. Whenever team travels and we face difficult situations, some of the journalists start making their own story and start putting it out.”
