Government sources said 10 Cabinet ministers and six ministers for state in the Vasundhara Raje Cabinet in Rajasthan have received threatening emails on their official IDs.

The mail, purportedly sent in the name of terror outfit Indian Mujahideen (IM), challenged state government to take all measures as it has planned “a surprise” on January 26. Rajasthan Director General of Police Omendra Bhardwaj said the police was verifying the credibility of the email, and the probe is on in full swing.

“Investigations are being carried out to verify the credibility of the email. Inputs have been shared with all intelligence agencies, including the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS),” said Bhardwaj. ATS officials said there was no need to panic, and that they were in constant touch with all the intelligence and security agencies in the country.

The police have sought the help of the Interpol and an international IT company.
State governments had earlier received such threatening emails just before Independence Day and Republic Day. But this is the first time 16 state government ministers have been threatened via email.

According to police sources, the mails say: “We are Indian Mujahideen. You people be alert. We are going to give you a big surprise. You can understand what we mean by this. Do whatever you want. Its an open challenge. We will carry out serial blasts in Rajasthan. Stop it if you can. The date of action is January 26. –IM”
Meanwhile, security has been stepped up across the state after the receipt of the emails. VIP security has also been strengthened.

“We had already beefed up security in preparation for January 26. After the mails, more arrangements have been made. The input has been shared with all the districts, and they too are alert,” said Bhardwaj. Meanwhile, all officials, as well as State Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria, refused divulge to the names of the ministers who received the mail.

“Our police, DGP and all senior officials are aware of this mail. They will crack the case soon and identify the people involved in sending this threatening mail,” said Kataria.
