Stay off this dance floor

Mumbai Can Dance Saala
Hindi (U/A) ¬
Cast: Ashima Sharma, Rakhi Sawant, Prashant Narayanan, Aditya Pancholi, Shakti Kapoor
Director: Sachindra Sharma

Put in a few peppy dance numbers (think Rakhi Sawant), typical fight scenes, a love story, and you have choreographed the sequence for a disaster that rather stays off the dance floor!

And hell, this is called Mumbai Can Dance Saala; sure, but when you dance with two left feet (cleft actually), it’s safer not to say that you CAN dance here.

The film, supposedly based on the real life story of a controversial bar dancer, takes us through her journey from her times of fame at a local dance bar to when she finds love in an aspiring don-to-be and finally gets involved in scams of all sorts. To add to all this, we have the bad man element in ‘Baasha,’ a much-dreaded don with whom no one dare mess with. Actually, he provides some unintended comic relief.

On the whole, the film lacks substance and fails to do justice (if at all) to the legal issues surrounding bar dancers in the country. Further, a badly written script makes a mockery of a sensitive issue. This is probably a story that could have been told in a much better, dignified format.

Ashima Sharma fails in her debut. But this will be a real treat for all those ardent Rakhi Sawant fans looking for mindless entertainment.
Give this a miss.
