Child census begins in C' ballapur district

Speaking at a function to inaugurate district-level child census at Kuppahalli in the taluk on Tuesday, the MLA opined that the Act could be implemented in toto only with exhausting data on the children collated through census.

 “Changes have been effected in the census from this year. Instead of enumerating children in the age group of 6-14 years, the children in 0-18 year age group will be taken into account this time,” the legislator said.

Zilla Panchayat president Vinuta Srinivas said that the child census should lay a strong foundation to achieve the goal of universal education.

Vinuta Srinivas called upon the enumerators to collect real data from population so as to enable the government formulate practical and viable schemes.

She emphasised that the information collected during census should pave way for bringing the dropout children back to school.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer N Krishanappa said that the data collected during census is crucial to ensure universal access to education.

Zilla Panchayat Vice-president Chenduru Venkatesh observed that several schools in the district lack teachers thus affecting the quality of education. Children are being deprived of education owing to staff shortage and the district administration should take steps to redress the problem.

Instruction Chandrashekhar said that the scope of the census hitherto limited to primary education has been extended to high school education as well. The Department has made efforts to introduce comprehensive changes in education.

Vice-principal of District Institute of Education and Training Raju opined that human resource development could be ensured only through inclusive education.

Taluk Panchayat member K R Reddy, Gram Panchayat president Srinivas, president of Milk Producers Cooperative Society K P Channabhyregowda, Block Education Officer R Ashwathaiah and others were present.
